A NASA® Originating TechnologyThe CorTemp® core body temperature sensor technology wasdeveloped in the mid 1980’s by the Johns Hopkins AppliedPhysics Laboratory in collaboration with the Goddard SpaceFlight Center.Introduced as the “ingestible thermometer pill”, the sensor wasused to monitor deep internalcore body temperature inastronauts to detect hypothermicand hyperthermic condi-HQ, Inc. licensed the sensor in1988 for widespread commercialuse and today theCorTemp® core body temperaturemonitoring system isglobally recognized and usedin sport, military, occupationalsafety, medicine, research, agriculture, and industrialapplications.

Why Use CorTemp?
Accurate core body temperaturereveals vital information for treatmentand study in both active and inactivesubjects and when monitoring andpreventing heat stroke in athletes onmonitoring in non-laboratory environsible. The absence of catheters, probesand wire connections frees ambulatorypatients, athletes and researchment. CorTemp® brings new comfortto bedside monitoring in surgery, recovery, ICU, sleep study and otherresting environments.Accurate core body temperaturemeasurement is critical when monitoringathletes in hot environments.Research indicates that externalmethods of temperature measurement, such as tympanic, temporal, orother measurement devices are notaccurate in assessing core body temperatureduring intensive activity in the heat. TheCorTemp® system will enables you tomonitor your at risk athletes and evaluodsso cooling can be applied to theathletes that need it the most.

How the CorTemp
Sensor WorksThe silicone coated sensor contains a micro battery, quartz crystal, communication coil and circuit board, all encapsulated in medicalgrade epoxy. Once ingested, the crystal sensor vibrates at a frequency relative to the body’s internal temperature, produces act’snormal rate of motility which can vary anywhere from 24-36 hours. Monitoring can be extended by administering another sensorafter the initial pill has passed. The CorTemp® sensor is accurate to ± 0.1°C and is FDA cleared and registered as a single us e device.
